Hi everyone
I’m sorry to be on here sounding so ungrateful, but I was told I’d have my reversal after 3 months, and am waiting for a date. My surgeon told me to get a blood test done at the end of January in preparation for surgery early this month. I phoned the hospital yesterday and was told they couldn’t give me any idea when I’ll get an appointment! I had a real meltdown at that. Did anyone else have the same problem? Why would the surgeon tell me one thing, and everyone else tell me almost the opposite?
Hi Jools63
You don't sound ungrateful at all, you sound confused with what is happening.
I don't know anything about stoma reversals but I do know that surgeons and admin clerks live in two different worlds. My consultant will say "Make an appointment to see me in 3 months" but when I get out to the booking clerk she says "the earliest appointment we have is in 4 months time".
So what I'm trying to say is that your surgeon concentrates on surgery and has no idea that the hospital hasn't got the capacity to do the surgery when he thinks it should be done
Hope that makes sense
x
Thank you so much for your kind message. My surgeon has telephoned me to say he doesn’t know when he can do my reversal now, it could be several more months! I am trying to just get on with my life now. I’ve been to the hairdressers today and they are my biggest fans.
My op was last November too! The surgeon told me at a meeting three weeks after that, he’d do the reversal after three months. Had a contrast dye test done in December, and was told to get a blood test done late January ready for my op! I didn’t reorder my stoma bags because of this, and am now praying that I can get some at short notice. I’m only cross because I thought originally it might be six months! I’m now trying to plan things to look forward to. I did feel like my surgeon was surprised to hear that I want my reversal sooner rather than later! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you don’t have to insist on yours.
