Hi all.
I'm new to this group and have searched for some info on this and couldn't find anything, so I thought I would ask the experts on here. Mum had temp colostomy in Dec 2019. Just started chemo and wow were we not warned in the change of smell of her stool. The change of smell happened the 1st day after intravenous chemo started. Is this smell common or do I need to be a bit more concerned and talk to nurse about it? Thanks all x
Hi , I had a temporary Ileostomy for 7 months & had 7 rounds of chemo. I can’t remember if the chemo changed the smell of my output but I do know that some foods can cause odour such as onions, broccoli, cheese, eggs, cabbage, Brussels sprouts. My bag had a charcoal filter & I had peppermint oil to put in my bag, which helped.
Hi Okdokeden, I have a permanent ileostomy and I can't say I noticed a change in smell after chemo. It did make my output really thick and black for the first couple of days after though. I'd imagine it would depend on which chemo drugs she's having. Really hope things improve for you and your mum xxx
