Hi I have a perm stoma since August 2018 and all been going well.

Just recently I have been getting gripping pain a crossed stomach to the point it hurts to sit and walk.

It's like really bad trapped wind so I being niave here with a stoma can you get trapped wind in the stomach area.

So bloody painful any ideas what you can take to relive it, tried baths laying flat stretching.

Any advice so very welcome xxxxx

I'm sorry to hear of your problem.

Apart from the gripping pain are you suffering any other symptoms?

    How is your output,

if you have a colostomy is it still formed.

If you have an ileostomy is it like porridge consistency or watery.

If your output is watery is it the same as normal or extra watery

Have you noticed that your output is extra smelly.

Is your bag not a full as it normally would have been.

How is your stomach, does it feel as if you've got an abdominal distension.

    Have you vomited.

Has your stoma increased in size

    Have you felt nauseous.

    Has your stoma stopped working.

If you can answer yes to most of the above and the condition has been ongoing for a few days, my suggestion this Friday evening is, I afraid, to telephone NHS111 and explain fully all the symptoms and obtain medical advice.

However if you have answered NO to most the above questions you may well have trapped wind in which case you may need to watch what you eat carefully, keeping a food diary to note food input and any symptoms you experience, drinking peppermint tea might help, avoid fizzy drinks and alcohol, maybe try cutting back on the fibre in your diet.

I hope the above is a bit of a help to you and your get rid of the pain soon, please let us know how you get on.
