Hi and welcome to the online community and in particular to stoma support (poo corner) and I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing excessive wind.
How long ago since you had your operation as it is quite normal to experience this after an ILEOSTOMY operation.
Do you think that maybe you started swimming too soon after your surgery that caused your groin injury, no one can predict how soon or how it will take for you to get back to normal activities and as we are all different, the general rule of thumb is to listen to your body and be guided by it.
Prior to the surgery were you prone to having wind or is this a new thing since the operation.
You have probably been told that certain foods, vegetables in particular can cause wind in ileostomates and to try and pin down the cause you should start a food diary in which you write down everything you eat during the day, even the sneaky snacks, and also the effect your diet has on your body including wind and output. You should also record your output and type together with the severity of the wind.
It is not only certain foods that can cause wind but drinking fizzy drinks including beer and lager can cause it as can drinking when eating even talking during a meal can cause wind to build up in your body.
Drinking peppermint or ginger tea can help relieve the build up of wind, gentle exercise can help to get rid of the stomach pain, nothing strenuous maybe just rocking from side to side in the chair or gentle stretches.
You should mention this to your GP as it could be, but very unlikely, something wrong with the remainder of your bowel that's causing your wind but may need checking out to eliminate it from the list.
If you need to ask anymore on this or anything to do with being an ileostomate please don't hesitate to come back to me, I'm normally on site everyday.
Ian
