Weight loss after radical cystectomy?

I did not have a cystectomy but my pre op weight was about 13.5 stone. After two weeks in hospital and major surgery I lost about a stone and a half.  My weight is hardly creeping up if at all.  One of the colleagues on this site told me that after surgery every calorie you consume goes into repairing your body and only once that job is done do you start to put on weight.

Hi,I had a radical cystectomy on the 30th September and lost a stone.I'm just under 5' 7 and dropped to under 8stone.The recovery nurse said it was common to lose a stone/a stone and a half after this operation.I had completely lost my appetite before the surgery and it wasn't improved by getting paralytic ileus afterwards.I'm eating better since coming off the low fibre diet and the weight is slowly creeping back up.I've had major problems with constipation but the surgeon said it takes about 6 months for the bowels to get back to normal.I'm glad to be eating more fibre and vegetables again.It's good to hear that you are feeling well.Best wishes.Jane
