Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knows how often one needs to go to Stoma Clinic and see the stoma nurses, please?
I am enquiring as I have had my stomas for over 3 years and I haven't been sent for or received a stoma clinic letter.
Thank you and have a great weekend.
My hospital in Hertfordshire runs a stoma care clinic Monday to Friday and recommend an annual check up.
To get my stoma checked all I have to do is phone up and make an appointment, a GP referral is not necessary.
Your question made me curious about other health boards in the country. I carried out a search in Wales and the best I could come up with was Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport and they run stoma clinics and recommend an annual check up
However if you're still in touch with a community stoma care nurse she should be able to do an annual assessment.
If your supply company have their own nurses they should be able to do the annual assessment.
If you are a member of Convatec ME+ you have access to their nurses also
I hope this helps and you can your stomas checked out and can have a discussion about general stoma management.
Regards
Ian
Hi Ian,
Thank you for your reply and checking it out.
I will contact the stoma nurses.
With kindness,
Lisa
