DID ANYONE HAVE AN ELAPE OP AND THEN HAVE PROBLEMS WITH GETTING STOMA TO WORK

WHAT COURSES OF ACTION WERE TRIED BY MEDICAL TEAM.

  • Hi

I'm sorry to hear that you're having problems getting your stoma to work.

Although I'm not a member of this group I noticed that your post hadn't had any responses yet. By replying to you it will 'bump' it back to the top of the first page where it stands more chance of being seen.

I noticed from your activity that you had posted a similar question in 'ask an anal cancer surgeon' and you have had a reply from the consultant colorectal surgeon. If you haven't seen his reply clicking here will take you directly there.

  • Hi yes I did have an issue which was resolved I’m pleased to say whilst I was still in hospital. Bowels can be very sulky post op and it took mine a while to just get on with it.

Some of the drugs I was given was helping in one way but causing my bowels to sulk even more. Everyone reacts differently to these situations though.

Mine was resolved quite quickly because I was given gastrogafin which cleared me out completely and gave my bowels a restart.  Gastrogafin is a bit like moviprep which they give you for bowel prep for a colonoscopy. I hope I’ve answered your question. This is by no means a medical response it is my experience as a patient and I hope it helps.

Were you thinking of filling in your profile?

I've just had my 12 month follow ups CT scan and Colonoscopy and there’re both clear. My biggest issue now is the osteoarthritis in my knee and a potential knee replacement. Happy days.

Take care and let me know how your getting on. Stay positive. PM if you wish.
