Hi everyone ,
My daughter has an ileostomy following an anterior reaction . She’s due to have it reversed on Tuesday sept 3rd . She had her pre op last Friday and today the hospital rang to say she needs to have an iron infusion as her iron levels are low . I’m wondering what would caused this ? Her bloods were fine before her resection . Has anyone else had this issue ?
Thanks
Hi
I would think that your daughter has not been getting enough iron from her diet (not a medical diagnosis) and she's not been seeing any blood in her bag, the infusion will sort her out. It's quite a simple process just like getting fluids or blood intravenously when I had mine 5 years ago I was given two bags in one day and nothing has been mentioned since except I was told about a year ago that my iron levels were too high. I have a standing order with the plebotomist at my GP surgery to have bloods taken every few months.
I would think after the infusion your daughters iron levels will return to normal and her reversal will go ahead without problem and I wish her all the best for the 3rd.
Please remember that post reversal that we have many members on here who've had a reversal and will gladly answer any questions your daughter may have plus give their Top Tips for the days after the surgery.
Let us know how she gets on please.
