Hi,

I hope it's ok to post this on here.

My mum sadly passed away and has a large amount of brand new and unused wee stoma bags, cleaning spray and other accessories. I contacted the supplier company, local hospital, hospice and cancer charity but they are unable to take them.

I don't want to bin them, it's such a waste and mum would want someone to get use out of them. I don't have an exact inventory yet but if anyone is interested and able to collect from Dorset or the Isle Of Wight I will get a list together and happily donate anything of use.

Thanks

    Hi

Re posting again for the benefit of the members of this group.

Sorry to hear about your mother.

Unfortunately suppliers, hospices and hospitals are not interested in accepting unwanted stoma  supplies the only place I know of is

    Jacob’s Well Appeal
    Jacob’s Well Yard
    Swinemoor Lane
    Beverley
    HU17 0JX

    Tel 01482 881162
    email office@JacobsWellAppeal.org

Jacob's Well accept donations of stoma items and they distribute to overseas deprived countries.

They do not collect if you want to donate the unwanted items you need to box them up and send to the above address unfortunately you have to pay the carriage but they suggest that you take items out of boxes to minimise your costs. If you are interested I would suggest that you email them direct and they will give you further instructions.

Hope this is of interest up you.

    Hi Ian,

Just to say I sent my mum's stoma supplies to Jacob's Well and received a lovely letter of thanks from them.

    Thanks for the recommendation :)

    Hi

So glad you found the information of help and your found a good home for the unwanted supplies.

    Best wishes for the future

    Ian

  • I was going to do the same with my supplies and rang the stoma nurses to check that the charity was still in existence and they told me that a rep comes round from the charity and collects them from the hospital so it might be worth checking for anyone reading this post in the future

    Hi Karen

Thanks for posting this information. I have contacted Jacobs Well and asked for further information on their collection locations and will report back when I have received a reply.

As ostomates we collect unwanted supplies over the years and have nowhere to dispose of them but I'm not too sure if the Stoma Departments at the hospitals would welcome receiving large volumes of unused supplies knowing the Stoma nurses at my hospital they would not be amused.

I only know of one supply company where one of ladies used to collect them, but not sure about now.

    Kind regards

    Ian

    UPDATE

I have received the following from The Jacobs Well charity.

    >>>>>>>>>>>

    Hello Ian.

Thanks for your e-mail and directing people over the years to send their unwanted Stoma supplies to us.
No, it is not correct that we have collection points.
Most people send them directly to our warehouse.
We collect from hospitals - their Hope - Castle Hill (weekly), Hull Royal (weekly), Scarborough (as required - maybe every quarter), York (every couple of months).
I am not sure these Hospitals would have the storage space for other people's donations but you could try them?
    Kind regards,
    (Office Manager)

  • Hi Ian

Hmmm I don't know whether to ring my nurses and check now or not? I'll be cross if they've just binned them as I had the packaging all made out - I only rang my nurses to check cos there was no answer when I rang Jacobs Well.

I was thinking about this last night wondering if the girl on the switchboard had misunderstood me but I remember she told me I could drop them in at either Halifax or Huddersfield - it's a good job I sent them some biscuits if she had got it wrong!

    Hooe you're doing ok

  • Hi Lifer

I sincerely hope you won't be blacklisted by the site as you are a longstanding trusted poster who offers great advice and support.

I saw your post and thought it was a good idea as I know there a several members who are in US and I don't think anyone in the UK will post their supplies over there rather than to an address over here but if those are the rules then so be it.

Oh well - it was a nice thought

    Hope you're keeping ok
