Hi,

I am being encouraged to change from using the Dansac irrigation kit to a Braun Irypump. Please are there any people out there who have experience of using this pump. It is an incredibly expensive pump, not that I would have to pay, but I do wonder what advantages it would have over the very simple Dansac irrigation kit which I find easy to use.

ELJ56 has told me it is rather heavy to travel with and that there is a certain feeling of loss of control of the water flow making it a little scary. The weight concerns me as we travel a lot. I feel sad that it doesn't have a small heater and built in thermometer.

Would be grateful for any opinions on this please.

I hope they can help us. I was also looking at the Braun iry irrigation system. I had my ostomy bag reversed just 3 weeks ago but I hate living my life in the bathroom. I will be following to see if there is any help for us in the US.

Hello, I sympathise totally, was in the same situation 18 months ago,  from July to the following May life was miserable, then I found the iry! I have not looked back, I use it each morning, takes a minute to utilise , no discomfort . About ten mins to work, take couple of Imodium  and your good to go fir 24 hours,  It’s my most precious possession!
I get min on the nhs, I chant recommend it enough,  givens you back a nomrmal life, takes the stress away,

youwill need the all clear from your specialist nurse and they can then recommend it to your doctor.

i have to,d friends in our position they are so grateful, hope this helps you, it works so well for me I feel I must spread the word,!

     All the very bestx

You know even my husbands Surgeon thinks it would be great to use the Irypump but we can't get one here. Do you have to have a perscription from a Doctor to get one or can you just order one and pay for it? And if so would someone be willing to order one. I hate the USA medical system. My husband grows more depressed every single day.

I live in the States too. I don't know if it would work here since the outlets are different from Europe to the United States. If it would work, I would be ordering one right away. I have found that if I take an Imodium in the  morning, I am usually pretty good til bedtime. So I am able to get out some. I have to get better for my son's wedding in April.

    Hi,

Why don't you go to the maker's website for US and see how you get on? Irrigation isn't suitable for an ileostomy. The maker is B Braun Medical.

    Good luck!

    Linda :-)

Hi again, peristeen  is another irrigation system, I used it prior to finding the iry,, in the absence of iry it’s worth a try!  Wishing you the very best of luck , I know in the first Few weeks it’s to say the least challenging! Be  reassured it does get better, diet and Imodium. Helps a lot,, but irrigation has made a huge difference to me, I don’t worry at all now! Hope this helps youxx

    Hey Linda

They don't let us have access to the Irypump in the US and he has had his eliostomy reversed and is dealing with incontinance and is unable to work. And their are plug adapters for UK plugs Blush

The situation in the UK is a bit of a postcode lottery for the Irrypump. Some counties will fund it, others will not. I finally bought my own for just over £500! I can’t say I am disappointed with it as that would be unfair. What I would say is that I can see little advantage of it over a simple gravity feed irrigation system.
I tend to use it alternately with the gravity system. Some people I know say the pump is excellent and indeed it is well made for sure. But it is incredibly expensive and the spares cost a fortune too. New tubing and cones every few months etc. Don’t go running away with the idea that it is the best answer for irrigation. The gravity feed system is simple, light and easy and I feel if irrigation with that system doesn’t work well for you then the pump will not either.  Just my opinion mind! Others may not agree
