I have had my stoma since January 2017. It has remained the same size since February. In the last few weeks I have had to readjust the size of my pouch several times - trial and error.
Nothing has changed regarding diet, life style, medication etc. It also pancakes quite a lot - tried all of the remedies I know - oil in pouch, blowing air into pouch (fresh ones only), screwed up loo roll.
I have an appointment with my stoma nurse in a couple of weeks.
How often does your stoma change?
I would like to get sorted before my new chemo starts next week. Who knows what surprises are in store for me and my stoma mate then.
Please share your secrets - you know you want to.
P.S. I tried to have my pouch pre cut by my supplier- they had the template round the wrong way. Thought chemo brain had taken over. DIY is best xx
Lots of love xxxx

It's an ever changing scene in my experience. I see my Stoma nurse every 6 months and get her to check the template and it normally needs some adjustment. In the first six months I made quite a few adjustments myself as it changed quite a bit.
I had a similar experience with pouch cutting, especially the machine cut ones (Pelican/Eakin). Having the hole in the wrong place and the edge like a razor doesn't make for a brilliant start to the day!
Hope the chemo goes well.
I would not like to get pre cut bags as my Stoma still changes sometimes after a year. Â Â
Sorry but I have not found any solution to pancaking. Â I have not tried those little sponge bridges you can get to stick in the bag, partly cos they look fiddly. Â Â
It seems to me that the filters attract output as well!

I have never used a precut pouch, would always suggest that everyone has a good cutting gauge template not the paper one that comes in some boxes and that the stoma is measured at every change with the help of a mirror.
You only have to watch your stoma during a change to see it change size.
I know from experience if the pouch does not have good all round adhesion right from the start then problems will follow.
Pancaking is a different problem and could be down to diet making your output too thick to drop.
A change of pouch type could be one answer if you use a flat wafer ask your SCN if you can try a convex.
I use a bead of stoma paste round my stoma which I use as polyfilla before I apply my pouch to get an all round seal.
Hi Ian
Already using a convex pouch. Never had any leaks (or leeks). No diet change. Guess it's just life as we now know it.
Hope you have fully recovered from your opp.
Take care xxx

Had a panic moment today.
My stoma normally stands proud. Went to change my bag and my stoma had almost vanished. It was more than half the size, almost flat. Phoned my stoma nurse and she said that normal service should resume in a day or two.Â
I think the word normal should be removed from the dictionary.
Love to all xx

In this warm weather everything(one) is looking for a bit of shade.

Thanks Ian. I knew you would have an answer, although not warm here xxx
