Good afternoon all on this beautiful sunny day we have here in Derbyshire just a quick question can anyone recommend the best dry wipes to use to clean an ileostomy stoma please, many thanks Janis x
Hi Janis
Greetings from a sunny Hertfordshire - soon be time to take the thermals off.
Strange question about dry wipes, doesn't your pouch supplier supply these to you?
It is part of the NHS guidelines that dry wipes should be supplied free of charge from the supplying company whether it be your local pharmacy or the specialist supply companies.
If you are not receiving sufficient from them ask them to up your allocation.
I know that some suppliers send out packs containing about 8" x 8" squares which are absolutely hopeless especially if you have a bad change and as has happened to me use a full pack on one change.
Before you go along the buying route ask the supply company to send you some.
I have one supplier who doesn't ask if I want wipes they ask how many packs I want and they are big wipes.
Regards
Ian
Hi Ian thank you for your prompt reply I do get Pete's wipes from the supplier but they are the small ones and I am not sure how many to ask for before they say oh no you can't have that many,I clean my husbands stoma and change his bags for him and like you say it depends how active Eric can be ( stomas name ) just in case you thought I had two men in my life lol,as to how many I use, they are really soft and not bad quality and yes I have bought a couple of packs of the larger ones but they are very harsh.i might try my luck with the supplier and ask how many I can have at any one time, once again thanks for the advice, take care Janis x
Hi all.. When I was questioned about why I needed extra packs of wipes I politely went into LOTS of detail about Little Miss, her hissy fits and mopping up with my t shirt... The next delivery I got 4 packs of 30 extra large...Â
If you get any hassle just say well such and such supplier said if I moved to them they would gladly give me more wipes.... See what they say - you should not have to buy them... The companies provide them as a complimentary item but should be happy to provide more than the standard one pack...Â
I wouldn't feel bad about asking for more. I usually ask for 5 packs with each of my deliveries. I think these companies get paid for what they send out too, so I'm sure they don't mind x

What's the worst they could say NO but as swiftyslittlegirl reiterates my sentiments just tell them you have been offered more than you have asked them for by another supplier and see what there reaction is.
Each day we are told that we should switch our gas and electricity suppliers regularly so why not the same for ostomy supplies,
Let's know how you get on.
Ian
Thank you for your advice, will do that next time -Janis x
Hi Ian thank you for the advice,I will try that with our supplier which to be fair are pretty good I have had some supplies come today I did ask for 4 packs of wipes and they have sent us 4 so I may try and press for more because like I said they are only the small ones, they also included a bag of Cadburys mini eggs as a little gift so not all bad when I opened the box, will let you know the outcome, take care Janis x
I use two suppliers and there's no doubt that the quality of the complimentary dry wipes they provide has deteriorated markedly in recent months. The most striking is Fittleworth whose product is now useless. Â I now buy mine - made by Robinsons - on the Internet. I pay for them but it's worth it.
Hi there which ones do you buy from Robinsons they are only half hour from where I live I gave just looked in their website and their choice is excellent,to be fair I never thought about them and they are so near as well, many thanks Janis x
Hi I have recently been having problems with my local pharmacy Rowlands in Sheffield about providing dry wipes/disposal bags. For the second month they were not included - this was compounded by a very rude and unhelpful dispensing assistant who retorted that if they weren't sending any nothing could be done. Some companies need to train their staff about stoma products and what is expected if they wish to supply these lines. I shouldn't have to explain myself to an untrained assistant as to how necessary they are to my daily routine!
Needless to say I am looking for a new pharmacy!
