Well, after having had my Ileostomy for 3 weeks now and mostly wearing Jogging bottoms, I now need to start to prepare for when I can get to work. Unfortunately, owing to my emergence surgery to remove my Colon no discussion could take place prior to the op as to the location of the Stoma. Looking round the internet most Stomas seem to be sited to the right of and below the Belly Button. Mine however seems to be above the Belly Button. This is causing me difficulty I wearing my normal trousers without constricting the bag.
I have bought braces to help, but the only solution I can think of is to get trousers a few sizes larger and longer than I normally get.But think I would look a bit like Coco the Clown!
Does anyone have any other suggestions ? Apart from Joining a Circus!!
Any help would be great.
Thanks all.
Tom
My husband has 2 stomas...colostomy and urostomy....that are at belly button level. He struggles with wearing a belt due to constricting the colostomy bag. He wears braces and they work with only allowing a small amount of play around the waist, not a few sizes larger. If you bought longer ones and hiked them up under your arms you might look a bit odd if it wasn't covered by a jumper. They make underwear specifically for ostomy patients, some with high waists. There are also vests that would smooth your line down. Do an online search and you'll pull up a few companies....plus they are on prescription for NHS patients. Good luck on your return to work.
Hi Marie.
My goodness 2 Stomas! That's an even bigger challenge! Yes I did try my regular trousers with a belt but it just wasn't going to work. My wife bought me some braces and because I tended to wear trousers with very little lee way I have been and tried on different sizes. I ended up with slightly longer leg than normal and very slightly wider around the waist. I will have a look to see whats on line as well, I hadn't thought about underwear so that worth looking into as well. I must admit I did try a pair of trousers 2 sizes wider and it did look rather silly lol.
Thanks for your advice, its given me some food for thought! I a getting sick of wearing jogging bottoms now and its time I smartened myself up, hopefully it will make me feel better about myself!
Thanks again Marie

Have you tried Chums (mail order company)
They do high waisted trousers with expandable waistband (2" each)
Also have a look at White Rose.
If you go onto the Colostony Association Web site they have information on all aspects of outer and under wear clothing itemsÂ
.

PLEASE NOTE
I do not have any commercial or financial interest in any company that I recommend, my only interest in these companies is as a customer and user if their products.Â
Hi Ian, there is certainly a lot of Choice at Chums, I will look at the CA site as well, thanks a lot mate.

Hi Tom....dealing with the 2 stomas was a challenge at first, but he manages fairly well now. It is trial and error I guess. He has found it more comfortable to wear lower fitting briefs where the waist band sits under the bags. The best thing you can have is a positive attitude and a good sense of humour. I think your comment about smartening yourself up to feel better has a lot of truth to it. I noticed a positive change in my husband when he took steps towards "normality". Â
BODACH.....thanks for the links!!
