Hello my name is Heather I have just been diagnosed with brest cancer last week for the first time (and last I hope) Both my sisters have had cancer, one died seven month ago Im a bit scared of what to expect with the chemo. Can anyone tell me how soon after the treatment do you start to feel ill? How soon do you lose your hair?

Hi Jenney, apparently the taxol can make your nail come away from the nail bed, if the pain in my nails is anything to go by I am not surprised. It is also affected by light so the darker you paint your nails the less pain and hence, hopefully you won't lose your nails. I have had mine painted today for the first time ever, feel like Carmon Miranda lol. Actually I have always had a pedicure and I have noticed a lot less pain in my toes than my fingers which I always leave without polish. I have my next chemo on Wednesday so will let you know if it has helped.
Got to go now, have a curry waiting and James wants sex, have a feeling the curry will win lol xxx

    Hi Girlies

Just a quickie! Keep forgetting to ask this question of you all.

When it gets a bit cold, like today, does anyone's arm and or scars ache more? Mine do. They tend to stiffen up.

    Love Jean xx

PS. Katie doing really well. Not eating much, but drinking ok. A couple of days or so and I reckon she will be over the worst.

Paula curry wins every time :-) i havin a king prawn curry and my taste buds are hardly affected this time hooray. Paul just hoovering up and have shower then we eat. Concert sounds great hope you thoroughly enjoy yourself - i went see girls aloud 2wk after ops and had to stand up all night waving one arm about and clapping gently lol. Was good but i always forget my glasses and have to watch the screens ha.
Ha Pauls on a promise (a little one) to reward him for the major stripping job hes done and for keeping smiling lol - used to get 2hrs ironing out of him for a big promise hahaha.

Jean i havent noticed my scars feeling more tender when its cold - but am wondering what i gonna wear on my head when it gets colder as i really dont suit bobby hats. Hannah (my daughter) is at mums and is crocheting a huge single square and going out for tea then southport tomorrow. I just realised got no one to mind trevor when take kids to sandcastle water park in blackpool next saturday. Then weekend after 14th we go to lakes for our freebie weekend (cant wait) - mum and dad are moving in here with ETHEL their dog, it will be easier with trevor having more garden at ours.

Chelle hope the rain holds off for the BBQ and i thought you meant that the food was usually that bad that the chemo might make it taste better haha - no really hope you find something that hits the spot.

    Hope you all ok xxxxxxxxxxx

    Evening all

Hope you've all had a good Saturday - it's rained here in Rugby all blooming day and quite chilly.

You're posts have had me in fits of laughter. Re the sex, Karl is now worried he too is receiving chemo via me (if you know what I mean), no one's told me about the condom thing. Weiredly on chemo day I'm well up for a bit of rumpy, but then after that I'd rather have a cup of tea and a crunchie lol

For winter hats have a look on www.bohemia-fashions.com I've just bought a really nice polycotton turban style hat and a scarf to go with it which ties round it for a bit of decoration. They're really reasonably priced. The first time I wore mine I was stopped in Sainsburys and told how pretty it looked. Also www.suburbanturban.co.uk have autumn/winter hats on their site too (bit expensive but pretty).

Stef, Trevor's antics have me in stitches. I got Cookie, she's a Heinz 57, about 11 years old and pure white (great unless you wear black alot like me!!). We bathed her yesterday and she looked Daz white, she then promptly ran outside rolled around the garden then sat out in the rain, she's now dirty white and smelly!! lol She's great company though and forces me out to get fresh air.

Jean, glad to hear Katie's doing well. My Dad had an operation on Tuesday to have nodules on his vocal chords lasered. He's lived on mash potato and ice cream since (not together!!! lol) as not only is his throat understandably sore, but they burned his top gums so he can't get his teeth in!!! lol bless him. My poor old mum should have her own parking space at Coventy hospital, lately it seems she lives there, if it's not me it's been Dad!!

Re: Taxotere. I've heard that nails can get sore, does anyone know if acrylic nails will hold up??

I'm watching BBC2 at the mo, at the proms with the MGM Musicals. It's great, I'm singing and tapping along.

Whatever you're all upto, have a good night.

    Love Sam xxxxx

    Hi all
hope you are all doing well
i keep my nails painted as advised by chemo nurse and they grew very well whilst having chemo ,the week after Taxotere chemo my end of my fingers felt like when you shut them in a door ect.then about 6 week after chemo had finished my nails started to die off turning white /yellow right down to the wick and they started to break half way down the finger nail but this did not hurt as i think the nerve ends were killed of too.i had nearly a hole nail came away but it wasn't painful,i finished my chemo in march and my nails still not 100% but they are getting better.i found keeping my nails rearly short it stop them breaking and leaving me hardly any nail.I was also advised to suck ice lollys/icepoles when having Taxotere .hope this is some help.
    take care Margaret

Hi Mragaret, you have hit the nail on the head (excuse the pun). I feel like someone has hit my nails with a hammer, very painful. To be honest though I think the side effects of this are a walk in the park compared to my last chemo, AC so I am making the most of it lol I have got to the stage where I am grateful for the least amount of pain and side effects lol xxx

    Morning All

Laila you just cracked me up with your condom story. Duncan says if he has to use a condom now what was the point in paying for the vasectomy all those years ago! Bit late for us now anyway. No one mentioned condoms to us and I've had 10 chemos out of 12. Docs probably thought we were too old for rumpy pumpy!

Hope you managed to have your night out last night, Laila.

Stef, great to hear that Paul is more cheery this time around. Next time he sulks just kick him in the arse and remind who is having the chemo!!

How was the BBQ Chelle? Hope you managed to find something to tickle your tastebuds and that you didn't nod off! This time next week our taste buds will have recovered and then we only have to suffer one more time!!!!

Sam, a cup of tea and a crunchie sounds like a great idea to me. To hell with the nuptials at the moment! You sound very upbeat, mate, keep going!!

How are the nails Paula? Have you got frost bite yet? Can just picture you on the ceiling and James on a set of ladders. The mind boggles!

Well I had my curry last night and it was great. Little bits of tastes here and there. So much so that I am being a pig today and warming up the leftovers for my lunch. Note to self.......remember that plates that come out of microwaves are HOT!

    Take care all

Hi all , oh Jean you do make me laugh, but like you no-one told me about using condoms, and like sam I always got quite randy after chemo. I don't think I will tell Kev because I think he will panic, but it hasn't droppped off yet, so I think it is fine, but I shall keep watching it just in case. lol

Jenny I'm so glad you put that your having trouble remembering everyone on this site, me too. I have started briging paper and a pen with me so I can make notes.

I also find that everyone likes to talk food as well, I understand your all greatful when you can eat something that taste good, But spare a thought for those of us who have finished the chemo and are desperatly trying to loose the extra weight we put on,lol.

Having said that Kev brought back from the UK a joint of canterbury lamb which we had last night, and it was wonderful. Although we get lamb over here it taste more like goat, so to get some nice lamb from back home was delicious... see youv'e got me at it now.

Yes 41 is too hot for me as well, with the hot flushes also I am just soaking wet all the time.

well I hope the weather improves over there for you and you can get out and enjoy the sunshine
    have a good weekend

    dear bevelle
welcome to 'share', although I expect you'd rather not be here at all! I'ts sometimes rather quiet on here at weekends, but someone with similar issues to your own will be along before too long.
This site offers loads of support and advice, so do keep posting. i'm sorry I can't be of more use to you because my husband died of a different cancer - feel free to read my profile.
