  • Thats tough, Marie, but great news that you seem to have the cancer licked so far, hope the treatment damage isn't too great, daughter has some limitation of lung function from the radiotherapy and as she is a trombonist that might have been hard, but she has learnt how to cope....she's 31 now, was 26 when diagnosed....she is stubborn, she says, and very determined but the cancer seems to be stubborn too!

  • Thanks, Marie, she will be in good hands, whatever, I'm sure. She is up in Cheshire and goes to the Christie in Manchester, I'm in Buckinghamshire, so quite a way apart, but we are a close family and she often stays here especially if working in the south.

Hi I'm a newby. My name is Marie and my Dad has been diagnosed with lung cancer about 3 weeks ago. We found out on Friday thta he'll be starting Chemo by the end of this week and although I've read lots of info, I'm still so worried of what to expect. Does anyone have any wise words for me??
  • Hello, Marie, Sorry to hear about your Dad, but good for you finding this site, it will hopefully help you, with support as well as information. If you click onto 'lung' on the left of your screen, where it says 'tags', it will show you any current threads in use about lung cancer, you will be welcomed onto any in use, I'm sure....and there you will be able to find more specific help. In general, any chemo weakens the immune system, in an attempt to stop and kill any rapidly dividing cells, this will be targeting the cancer cells most of all, but also blood cells especially the white ones so your Dad will be more susceptible to infection. He will probably also suffer from tiredness, and maybe sick feeling too, so will be supplied with anti-nausea medication. If this isn't working too well, do ask for a change, as there are many different ones, its worth changing if the first one doesn't help. Hope that helps you, do keep posting....
