Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Today has gone well. Kate and Linda enjoyed beauty and the beast whilst myself and Justin enjoyed a look round Cambridge and a bite to eat in macdonalds although by then I was starting to feel a bit wobbly. We then picked up the girls from the performance and then, on the way home picked up Kates friend who is staying the night. As I ate earlier I didnt feel like tea and because I did eat early i am hoping to sleep a bit better tonight. We have spent the evening watching strictly (I know, how sad). I feel better for yet another rest. Although I feel I am just about over my cold my voice still sounds strained and a bit hoarse. never mind, tommorows another day.

A reasonably goods nights sleep last night. I have just been to pick up the old girls pressie as I had a phone call yesterday to say that its in. The sun is shining outside and its a lovely day. Although I look a bit of a funny shade of white I feel ok. Linda is busy preparing lunch for our guests today and the roast chicken smells fab. I did my stint by preparing the veg and will do another stint by eating it of course. I have taken my last sutent of cycle number eight. It would be really nice to think I could stop taking my other pills over the Christmas period and have a drink but im sure that probably wont be the case. I still intend to have a bloody good time.

Had a good day today. Dinner party and following tea went very well. Unfortunately after tea all I did was sleep so I wasnt very good company tonight. At least I wasnt alone, Tom who had been up since 4 oclock this morning also snored the evening away. I have tried to sleep tonight and feel tired enough but cannot get comfortable. I have now resorted to watching some wierd movie on BBC 1

Posting on Bob's behalf tonight as he is unwell in bed.
Our trip to London was an experience,
Bob was feeling a little rough this morning before we got to hospital for his check up , but we continued on our way and after having bloods taken and collecting next lot of Sutent we left the hospital. We then made our way to pop into a shop before heading home, big mistake, after several sit downs and loo stops, the colour drained from his face and thought I was going to have to carry him back to the car. Once safely back to the car,
Bob laid in the back of the car, and I was very relieved to get him home, whereupon he went up to bed and has slept for a few hours.
He has woken up now and looks a better colour but because he has not eaten or drank all day, feels very weak. All plans for tommorow have been put on hold, and even though he is not eating, he is worrying about Christmas dinner, especially as we have yet to pick the Turkey up!!!!!!!!

I bet he will be posting again in morning, if not, will keep his diary updated.

    Linda x

    Hi Linda,
Sorry to hear Bob has had a bad day, he sounds just like i feel infact i had 4 days more of sutent to take which brought me to Christmas eve so id be feeling my worse, so ive stopped otherwise i dont feel as though i could get through Christmas, so now ive got 4 extra days to get it out of my system. My Proffesor said if i get to feel really exausted to have a break, so i think my blood count is low again. Im going to have a B12 injection on Wed morning so im hoping that will help. I hope Bob feels better tomorrow, all the best for Christmas to you and your family Love Fay.

My god, during all this time of having Kidney cancer I have never felt so rough as I did yesterday After  getting home with terrible stomach cramps and holding  in the cheeks of my arse for England and after a terrible nights sleep and an even worse morning, I got up about an hour ago and have just started to feel a bit better. I havn't eaten anything for over 24 hrs Linda spoke to my own gp and she has prescribed me Codine Phosphate. The boys have been round helping out  and I fear we will be heavily relying on them to help out over Christmas.
