Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Yestreday was another good day and I am definately finally shaking off the cold/flue. After awaking quite early and Linda going off to work, I took Kate to school. We were nearly up to the front entrance and we decided to skip the last little bit, big mistake, suddenly my left leg just froze and I was in abolute agony for the rest of the day. I managed to grimace my way into the school so Kate was not too much the wiser then I painfully dragged my leg back to the car. Driving and sitting is fine but boy does it hurt when you walk. Wether it is another sort of spasm to do with the Sutent, who knows but I wont be skipping again anytime soon. I managed to find a way of walking about and by the afternoon felt ok to go into work for a while before picking up Kate complete mwith one of her friends. Linda came home and after tea I had a friend round who lives in America. It was really good to see Scott and have a good old belly laugh about old times. Considering the late night I dont feel too bad today and after taking Kate to school, I plan a stint at work. Does anyone else get muscular pain as well as joint pain as a side effect of taking the Sutent?

Have a good day everyone and as far as possible "MERRY CHRISTMAS" LOVE BOB, LINDA AND KATE XXXX

Work was good and went very well indeed. After taking Kate into school I got to work to find most of my team were out on business so I was left to take all phone calls untill they returned which was challenging but ok. Then I managed to do the last of this years invoicing before having a tidy round. Then on my way home I called in to look at another job and will hopefully go in tomorrow for a bit to get it priced up and sent out before xmas. Since I got home I organised for my lovely wife, who has been at work all day, and daughter fish and chips (well the local chippy did) and then I fed and walked Mollie. Then it was time to take Kate back to school as she has a school xmas play she is in tonight. We will be watching it tomorrow night and no doubt we will be the proudest parents there.

Bob I recall the title of a book called What Katey Did Next. Keeping up with your writing seems to be another episode in the saga. I am sure the Play will be brill.
I am well and enjoying the heat of Sydney. Each day is as good as the summers of 1974 and 1975, If you recall those.
Tomorrow I plan a visit to the Zoo. Some of the views from there are the finest of Sydney Harbour.
I have only a small window of opportunity daily in which I can access the share site which is also another reason I have been less noticeable than in the past.
    Thinking of you Charles

Thanks for your words Charles, its really good to hear from you. Yes, Kates play went really well but I was too knackered to write diary last night.

I woke up yesterday feeling not too bad after a fair nights sleep. Ss Linda was taking her mum shopping, which appealed to me about as much as having pins poked through my eyeballs, I decided to go into work for the third day running. On the way I decided to finalise Lindas xmas pressie, which I did. Good job I went to work to help pay for it!.
Once at work I had a really busy time sorting out problem after problem and did not finish untill about half past four. Then It was time to get home and get changed ready for the schools xmas production. Well, it went on for an hour and a half with my poor butt sitting on this low hard chair. So as you can imagine,by the end of the performance I was so stiff, I could hardly walk, I felt freezing cold and really dog tired. It was a good play called, " when Sasha got stuck up the chimney" and was well recieved by the gratefull audience. Then it was into another part of the school for mince pies and mulled wine before returning home. I dont know about you but I cannot stand mulled wine.
I was so tired I forgot to take my evening tablets and when I looked in my box this morning I had also missed the mid-morning ones. Never mind, im still here so could not have been that important. I also got a call yesterday regarding flue jab. Im ok to have it but was advised to have it during my two week break off the Sutent. So today I took my first morning cocktail of tablets and have just.taken the Sutent. I feel nearly back to whatever my normal is, if that makes sense. I know I will never feel totally normal again. I am geering up to walk the dog as she has had all her legs crossed for some time now and then I think we are off to Tesco to get the next phase of "last few bits". I also need to pop into work to deliver some cards at some point. After that, who knows. I hope you all have a good day.

I was so tired earlier and now I cant bloody sleep, its so annoying. So here we are, at something past three in the morning writing my diary. You will have to excuse any spelling mistakes as I can hardly see the computer screen, let alone the keyboard.

We had a reasonably leasurly day today. After waking up in good time I took Molls for her walkies and had a bit of a laugh at some rather posh ladys expense when her dog nearly pulled her over in the mud. Once back home, Linda took Kate to school whilst I fed the cats and then we both lounged for a bit, just chilling out and talking. Midday Linda had a haircut bookrd so I thought I would pop into work for a bit, I also called in Tesco as Linda had accidently broke a mug K ate had been given for Christmas. After getting there and struggling to park, I pushed and shoved my way through the hundreds and thousands of shoppers who had decided to go to Tesco just to make my ordeal that little bit harder. I eventually found the spot where the mugs should be but, ls none to be seen but as I stood back I could see one, pushed right too the back at the top. With my scarred chest there was no way I could reach up to get it , so I found this bloke who said he would return with a hop up. I was just getting to the point where I was about to self combust wnd climb up the bloody shelves myself when he returned and got the mug down. Well when I looked at the mug, I thought " my god, is this what all this fuss has been all about". So I made my way back to the car, weary but sort of sattisfied I had gor it. My big fear then was breaking it before getting home but I did manage it. On the way home I very briefly called in at work to hand out chrimbo cards. Then it was back home as a vicar friend of ours was calling in to see us. He is a very nice chap and someone, who when the time is right, is probably someone I could talk too. We did go and see him some time ago when we needed a bit of guidence and he was there for us. It was ,from memory the first time he had met Kate and will at some time, im sure help Kate at some time in tjhe future when I am very ill or have died.
Then after tea I had a meeting at Kates school to discuss a project in my role as parenr govenor before returning home to collapse on the settee for the evening. I am nearing the end of week four on my eight cycle and feel pretty good. I booked my flue jab today to coincide with my second week off and on Monday All three of us are treking up to London. Kate has made proffesore gore, my Oncologist a special Christmas card to say thank you for what he has done, so that is sure to be a tad emotional.

Well today has not gone quite as planned. The school have rung up and we have had to pick up Kate from school as she has a bit of a temperature and is shivery. Never mind, at least we will get it out of the way before Christmas. Linda and Myself did another bout of last minute shopping this morning and have not really done too much else. we have visitors tonight so a bit of a tidy up is on the menu before are guest's arrive. I was planning to pop to work today but not sure if I will now.

Well, I did manage to get to work for a bit yesterday afternoon, which was really good. I feel now I am up to speed at work and can pretty much let go untill after xmas. I will probably just pop in on Tuesday to check emails and then that will be it. Our planned dinner went really well last night. Linda done a fantastic spag bol which everyone enjoyed. It was quite funny as I felt really cold last night so I had the heating virtually full on and poor old Ian and Mandy who were sitting with their backs to the radiator were sweating buckets whilst I had a hot water bottle on my lap trying to get warm. All part of the Sutent side effects. I have one more day of my fourth week, cycle eight. Its off to the Marston on Monday. I keep forgetting that its week 3 and 4 and probably the first week off are usually my worst so its not supprising I feel abit grotty. I really feel ready for Chrismas and am counting down for the best one ever. I pick up our turkey on Wednesday, a 141b whopper. I fear we will be eating turkey until the end of march. This morning I awoke and felt really sick but fter comming downstairs and looking down the loo for fifteen minutes I kinow feel better. Kate had problems sleeping as she is still a bit under the weather. Linda spent most of the night getting up to her and as so neather of us had a very good nights sleep. Today Linda and kate are off to the Cambridge corn exchange to watch beauty and the beast. I will drop them off and then probably rest up untill I pick them up again. Tomorrow lindas brother and wife are round to lunch , so another busy day tomorrow. Justin has walked molly for me which is pretty good considering he was bit by a dog last week and is still suffering from it. I cant resist calling him rover and asking him if he feels a bit ruff.

I hope you all have a good weekend.
