Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Had a good lie in tioday, must have been the vino!!

Felt OK today, took Kate swimming and also finished bits and pieces in the garage. My tiredness seems to kick in during the late afternoons so if I have any plans for the day I have to carry them out in the morning or else they dont get done. Tomorrow we are planning a bar-b-q so hopefully the weather will hold. HAPPY FATHERS DAY to all you dads out there and make sure tomorrow you put your feet up and do absolutely nothing.

    Hi Everyone,
Had yet another good day, infact i varnished the doors and fittings on the inside of our motorhome, it needed a extra bit of shine, so now it looks lovely. Jon did work on the outside so we both had a fruitful and satisfying day. Its just so nice to have this extra burst of energy, i actually dont feel ill at all, but im not looking forwards to the time when i start flagging a bit,I think then ill ask for another blood transfusion. Jon bought a fitting for the spare tyre to fit it to the roof bars to let up more space in the roof box so thats tomorrows job for him, im not sure what ill be doing, maybe ill just relax in the sun if its as nice as today has been.
Im glad you mentioned being forgetful Bob cos im the same, i thought it was old age with me as , haha i also feel confused at times so it must be the sutent.
Have a good sunday all and all take care, Fay.

Today, Fathers day and I feel all over the place. I am finding today a bit of a wrench as it reminds me of my dad and how I lost him to Cancer. It also reminds me of my own impending mortality.I will soon snap out of it. Today we have all the family round for a bar-b-q and that will keep my mind occupied as I like to do the cooking. hope you are all OK and Fay im glad you feel so well. People dont understand but it makes you feel so good just to be able to do and acheive the normal routine jobs like gardening etc. I have just done a trip to the local tip and it was like a treat (how sad am I)

    Hi Bob,
Sorry you have had a bad day, but very understandable, i think its a case of you have to be there cos unless you tread in our shoes and all on this site no-one can fully understand and i wouldent exspect them to. With me its the silliest things that set me off, sitting in the car and looking at the blue sky, the sun shining and listening to our favourite CD at the moment, i cant help but think its good to be alive but for how long, oh ive got myself all upset now so ill change the subject instead of getting all maulding.
The CD we are playing is a group who are friends of ours called The Travelling Band and they are really good at least we think so, they are in America at the moment and then they are doing Glastonbury, my daughter goes every year. Check out the band on Facebook, you can hear their tunes.
Ive had another good day today, ive just been pottering and helping Jon, he has put fog lights on the front of the motor home, its actually parked at Jons Mums in Alderley Edge, so as well as doing jobs on it its getting me out of the house also.
I cant begin to tell you Bob how good it feel to be able to walk with ease again instead of needing my walking stick, i just hope this lasts.
Well ill have to say night night now, ive got my Ebay to check.
    Take care Fay.

Well I had a much better nights sleep than the night before and actually woke up feeling rested. Yesterdays bar-b-q went really well and as no one has rung to say they have food poisoning so I am very pleased about that (early days yet). As Linda feels a bit groggy from some virus she picked up, probably from the plane, I took Kate to school this morning which is always nice. As Linda says all the mums flock arouned me to talk and pass the time of day (in fact she calls me a flirt lol). one mum in particular keeps saying we are an inspiration but I cant see that. We are just living life to the full for as long as posssible. Last night I spoke to my sister in America and she is keen to see us so I think we will try and fit that in before the end of the year. October would be good as I will need another dose of sunshine by then. I am now week two on the fourth cycle of Sutent and apart from the night before last when I awoke at 2am with some sort of gastro reflux and could not settle I have not been too bad. Tiredness is always an issue but forgetfullness is almost as bad. At this time in cycle my joints begin to ache a bit but all things considered im doing ok. Fay I can totally relate to your "good to be alive but how long?" thoughts. I have them too. Sometimes I feel so well that I dont beleve that anything is wrong with me, then you have a bad day and reality kicks in.
Anyway I hope your weekend went well and I also hope your week ahead is good

Another couple of really good days under my belt. I am beginning to get sore feet but am applying cream to combat this. As Tom and Katie move house this week I am just hoping my energy holds out so I can be some use to them. Next monday I have chest scan to check area for abnormalities, I will be glad to get that one out of the way then in three weeks time I have the full body scan, just before our holiday. I am nearing the end of week two, fourth cycle of Sutent.

    Hi Bob

It sounds as if you are doing really well, you seem to have the patience of a saint! Fingers, toes and everything else crossed for your scans.

    Will be thinking of you

    Hi Bob and ALL,
Glad to hear you are ok Bob but sorry to hear about your sore feet, i hear lots of people suffer with sore feet and hands so i hoipe yours dosent develop into something, mine are ok at the moment, touch wood.Ill keep my fingers crossed also with your scans, its a nerve wrecking process eh but well worth it if you get good, results putting your mind at ease untill the next one.Im sorry to hear Linda has not been to well i hope she is better now.
Ive slowed down a bit this last couple of days, but im on my last week of Sutent so its to be exspected but ive had a really good month, which i put down to the blood transfusion.
Weve had a busy week doing jobs on the motorhome and getting it in tip top condition for our tour of Scotland, my daughter has just come back and she said its beautiful but for the midges, ill have to stock up with repellants although ill have to check to see if i can use those sprays as your skin absorbs it. Jon has also been decorating and patching up after the double glazing was done so ive been helping with that.
Did anyone see that on the news this week about the guy in America with primary skin cancer that was cured with his own immune system that had been cloned? My consultant from Christies was on the news talking about it and saying he would like to try it on other kinds of cancers, im going to have a word when i next go to put me down for it if i can have it. It sounds very exciting, although its not proven to work untill more people have been trialed any way its all good news to know other things are being tried and there is always hope.
Have a nice weekend everyone, many blessings Fay.
