Hi there, I wonder if anyone could help me please. I'm looking for an app or website that could help filter the overwhelming amount of information about treatments and what effects they have. I need to know how each particular treatment will affect me personally, but a lot of the information out there is either conflicting or just too vague. When I see the specialist team I don't feel they give me enough time to actually make the decisions. Surely I'm not alone in this?
Hi Bunrise and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
There is definitely lots of information to take on board when you are first diagnosed. Unfortunately, there is no app or website that can personalise information to tell you how any given treatment will affect you. However, both this site and Cancer Research UK have information about specific types of cancer and the likely side effects.
The online community is divided into different support groups so joining one specific to your cancer type will give you the opportunity to ask questions and share experiences with others who have a similar diagnosis to you and to see how treatment has affected them.
You can either let me know what type of cancer you have, and I can then provide you with a direct link to the group, or you can look through this list to choose the appropriate one.
Once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'.
