Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

    Hi Fay

yes it is clexane im having to help stop blood clots forming when flying. I have to have one at least two hours before flying, one two hrs after arriving at Poland, another two hours before leaving Poland and finally one two hours after arriving back in England. At the end of all rhis my a**e will look like a pin cushion!!. I was given a choice of Clexane or Fragmin, apparently either will do. I hope you get to see your friend in France soon. It would be a great tonic. Take care, Bob

Well it looks like today is going to be a grand day. I awoke early and took the poor dog for an early morning walk, I think it was about 5am. The next door neighbour has taken to borrowing the dog as he is trying to get fit so poor Molly has at least three walks a day most days. the other night I rattled her lead and she ran to her bed. I have already done some gardening.today. Mum and Julie are over today so I plan to get mum planting a few bits for me if its not too hot. Apart from a doctors visit this morning I hope we have not got too much else planned. I fancy a chair in the garden topping up the old tan. Im hoping Linda hasn,t got other ideas.
I had a really good nights sleep and feel much better today, I think yesterday I overdid the driving, my problem is I am so stubborn.
The extra pills I am taking have kicked in and doing some good. I hope you all have a good day.

    Hi Bob and everyone,
Good new Bob my tumours have shrunk by another 10% so the doc was really pleased but the best news was the pulmonary embolism i had dident show up on the scan so he thinks it has gone. Yippeee. He also said a have a cyst on my kidney but its nothing to worry about, but i probobly will in my weeker moments but at this moment im feeling FINE at least the Sutent is still working, im so lucky.
I do still have a blood clot in my main artery though, so i asked him about flying and i mentioned you were going to take Clexane so he said yes you can do the same , i just have to let him know., so im really chuffed now at least now if i want to go abroad i can. My sister wants us to relive a bit of our childhood and go to Jersey as we spent a lot of time there so now i can do that also.
Have you been told to have the injections in your rear as i had them in my stomach, if you do them in your rear avoid the bit you sit on as they tend to make you sore.
Tomorrow i have to get my drugs from my GP and then i think ill have some retail theraphy that always makes me feel good. Have a good break in Poland and Take care , Fay.

    Hi all

Had a grand time in Poland with Linda , Kate and my eldest sister Krysia. We drove down to Luton airport in the early hours of Friday and flew out at about eight am. We had a really goog flight which took just over two hours and then booked in at our Hotel. The hotel itself is very grand and has everything you could possibly need. Luckily we had managed to book the break arouind the good period in my Sutent and I had a really healthy appertite. Breakfast was as much as you could eat and boy did I. We also went out for meals and sampled the local icecream, beers and , well you name it , we had it. My injections for the flying went well and were given in my stomach (fay). The weather was really hot and so we all managed to top up our tan. The only scary bit was the first taxi ride from Warsaw airport to our Hotel. Because we bartered on the price because he tried to charge us more than the hotel had quoted at the time of booking, he was in a foul mood and drove like a maniac. At one point I thought" I didnt survive a 10 hour operation to be killed by a pole with a grudge". Anyway we are back home and I have already cut the front lawn and done other various jobs. I am about to take my mums cat tio meet its maker as it is old and now cannot even stand, not a nice job but its got to be done . My special thanks for Linda for arranging this weekend. I know that if she had not had done so , so maticulasly then it would not have gone so well. Good luck fay with the travelling and if anyone has spoken to Andrew please pass on my best wishes.

Yesterday was day one of the fourth cycle of Sutent and I had a really good day. I awoke early and cut the grass and tidied up around the garden for a bit before I took mums cat to the vets. She was very old and had sucummed to old age. As the vet gave her a jab and she passed peacefully to sleep I couldnt help thinking I wish they didn that to us when we could no longer fend for ourselves. We spent the rest of the day doing all the washing we had created in Poland. Today I fear is not going to be as sunny and as such we will probably nip into Cambridge to get some last minute bits ready for our cruise in about five weeks time. Linda has taken Kate to school and I have already walked the dog and let her have a swim in the lake near to us. I hope you all manage to have a grand day. By the way, not sure if I have already mentioned it but Kate raised nearly £2000.00 on her "face for life" Once again , many thanks to all the people who sponsored her. Im sure the money raised will, one day, make a lot of difference to Cancer sufferers lives.

    Hi Fay

Really good news on your tumors. what a brilliant result. Really good news on the pulmonary embolism as well. you must feel really chuffed. My injections were in fact in my stomach so not as painfull as they could have been, in fact not painfull at all. I hope you get to France and have a wonderful time with your sister. My eldest sister came with us to poland and i am sure it has done us both the world of good. I hope she remembers many happy memories of our trip for years to come. I hope the retail therapy worked, it always does for us. Take care, Bob

    Hi Bob and all,
Im so glad to hear you had a nice time in Poland, im sure its done you the world of good and the rest of your family seeing you enjoy yourself, they are special times to remember.
Sorry to hear about your Mum cat, thats a heartbreaking job to have to do, i dread to think if anything happens to my dog ( my Sweetiepie ).Hang on a sec Jon has brought me spaghetti bolonaise up for my tea.. Mmmmm lovely.
We had the double glazing put in yesterday, 10 windows and 2 doors and it took them 6hrs, i couldent believe it and they cleaned up, but today we had to do more cleaning as the dust settles and ive not stopped all day, i cant believe how well i feel, Ive felt better and better as the days have gone on since i had that blood transfusion, infact if it is that i wouldent mind having more in the future. The weakness has gone out of my legs and ive not been having my afternoon kip,and im also not on my good weeks on on sutent so if one is suggested for you welcome it with open arms and maybe you will feel the benefit.
I keep looking out for Andy but ive not seen anything from him in ages, i hope he is OK.
You did mention how much Katie raised, but it deserves a mention again. Cleaver Girl.!!!!!
Where are you going on your cruise? ive always fancied one.
The retail theraphy worked, its funny how it always does, simple things sometimes that we take for granted become a real pleasure. Thats all for now Take care Fay.

Well im nearly through week one on the fourth cycle of Sutent and once again sofar so good. At the moment I feel pretty good throughout then day but tired at night. The one thing myself and Linda has noticed is that my memory is terrible, hopefully a Sutent, fatigue side effect. Yesterday I spent the day in the garden. After cutting rear and front grass I sat down and edged all round. I cooked Linda and Kate tea before collapsing on sofa for evening. I know I try to do too much on my good weeks but I feel it sort of makes up for the times on my bad weeks when Linda waits hand and foot for me.
Today Mum, Julie and nephew Tom over for lunch. The Poland break already feels like a distant memory but looking foreward to the cruise. We sail from Southampton and travel to Barcelona, Cannes, Livorno, Sta margherita, Civitavecchia, Alicante and finally Gibralta before the three day voyage back to Southampton. We go for the last two weeks in July. I hope you are all ok.
