my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 oesophagus cancer last year in june and i recently found out he only has a few months left and im not sure on how to act. i’m 17 next month and i’m scared of losing my dad, i can’t imagine a world without him and i don’t want to shut him out as i know he is hurting too but i don’t know what else to do. i don’t wanna be without him and i don’t want to be alone either but im only starting to picture what my life will turn out like when he’s not here. does anyone have any advice? thank you

  • I just found out my dad has cancer, it a scary thing I'm still accepting it, my dad's being so strong for us kids.

I don't cry infront of him

Today is my 1st day researching his cancer,

  • I'm sure there will be others better placed here to give better advice but firstly, please know that you're not alone.

I'm in my 40s and that fear over losing my Dad is horrible to try to cope with. It's a completely normal and rational feeling to have.

My only advice is to cherish the time you do have, make memories if you can.

  • Oh sparkflower, I'm so sorry to read this. You can only be there for your dad and spend time with him.  On days when he feels well, try and do.sonething you know he will enjoy together - even if it's just sitting in the garden or the park. Take your cues from your dad. I hope you have family and friends around to support, you need to take of yourself too.

    Sending love and strength.
