Hi everyone,
My husband was diagnosed with colon cancer and now has live and bone mets. Palliative care team have been trying for a few weeks to get his pain under control, but this is proving very difficult. We feel now that with the drugs he is on he is asleep most of the time but when awake he is still in constant chronic pain. I feel that all the nurses etc that are visiting and altering his meds are not really seeing how bad this is affecting him and his quality of life. I wonder if he would benefit from a few days as an inpatient at the hospice to allow to them to see just how debilitating his pain is now and maybe enable them to address it better. I don't want to come across as a complainer though.
Has anyone else come across this problem and if so do you think it appropriate for me to suggest this to his nurse.
Sorry for the long winded message.
Hi Mya this must be a very difficult time for you and I am sure it's not easy to see your husband struggling. I would encourage you to continue to raise this and discuss options with the medical staff. This isn't complaining, it's advocating on his behalf.
And don't forget, if you need any further support, or want to talk things through, you can call the lovely folks here at Macmillan on 0800 808 0000 and they'll be happy to offer advice and a listening ear. Best wishes
