Hello there. My friend has been given 2-3 months to live. He was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer 3 years ago and chemo and other treatments have failed to control the cancer which has spread to lymph nodes. I suffer from reactive depression and am finding the prospect of losing him intolerable. He is suffering so much with pain in his groin, he is taking morphine which causes horrid side effects - dry mouth, nausea. His wife is very strong and stoic and I try to be the same, but watching him fade away with poor quality of life is breaking my heart. I feel better just sharing this pain and hope this group gives me the strength I need. Thank you all in advance
Hi Carodc
Welcome to our family and friends group though we are always a little sorry to see a new friend here I hope you find some of the strength you seek.
Some of what you talk about makes me think of something called anticipatory grief - something I know held me back some towards the start of the journey with my wife's cancer. Helpfully we have some information on this here that might be helpful.
We all know how helpful it can be to talk so I am so glad to read that it helped you posting on here. There is a old saying that a trouble shared is a troubled halved and I know there are times I find I need support too.
<<hugs>>
Steve
