What to expect?

Hi all, I've posted before about dad, well we have more news now and he's due to start chemo and radiotherapy in the new year. Can anyone share how this works? Do they do both at the same time? Will he be in hospital every day? What can we expect as to how things will work? He's still waiting his specific plan but trying to gather as much info as possible so we can support him. He has laryngeal cabcer, suspect locally advanced but he's not confirmed. Mum says they have said its agreesive but common head and neck cancer (getting info has been hard as he's trying to protect us from the reality of it i think and it's christmas so not really the conversation anyone wants, and think that has played into it a bit) all help / info / advice very welcome. I'm aware of head and neck forum but bit worried about posting there in case he's reading it...

  • Hi

Chemo and radiotherapy works differently depending on what type of cancer is being treated. As your dad has laryngeal cancer, I hope you don't mind me suggesting that you post this question in the head and neck cancer group, which I can see you've joined. That way you'll connect directly with others who have had treatment for that type of cancer and who can share their experiences with you.

Wishing you and your dad all the best

  • Thanks for your reply, I didn't want to post in there in case he's reading

  • Hi

My experience with cancer is quite different but on the main site we have this information and there I see that the most common option for radiotherapy is Monday to Friday, with a rest at the weekend, hope that helps.

  • Thank you, i have read this which is really helpful. I guess we'll need to wait to be told how it will work with having both

  • Sorry  . I missed the line about you not wanting to post in the head and neck cancer group.

  • It's OK, maybe i can depersonalise somehow

  • Maybe you could post something like

'A family member has laryngeal cancer and will be having chemotherapy and radiotherapy. How is this given?'
