Hi, as a previous survivor of breast cancer from four years ago, I know how much MacMillan helped me then. My darling husband is being tested for prostate cancer and is likely to have a biopsy just before Christmas. I'm obviously worried and want to support him like he did with me. Any advice welcomed

  • Hello

A warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community, although I am so sorry to find you back with us again.

I am Brian and I am 3 years into my own Prostate Cancer journey. The community is divided into cancer specific forums and to find advice about Prostate Cancer and how the journey develops why not join the Prostate Cancer forum (we are a decent bunch and have more lady members than men!!).

To join us just click on the link I have provided here - Prostate cancer forum  and once the page open us just click on "join" at the bottom of the page. You can then copy and paste or repost your original post in the "New Here - Say Hello" section. You will be made very welcome.

I look forward to "meeting" you again in our little part of the Community.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi JojoH63, and a warm welcome to the forum, as someone with prostate cancer, I can understand what a difficult time this is for you, though wonderful to hear you beat your cancer, so cancer is not a stranger to you. As your husband hasn't been diagnosed, it's difficult to offer specific advice. But I can recommend you join, The  Prostate Cancer forum, if you have any results so far put them, along with any questions or concerns in a post to the forum, I will have everything crossed your husband's biopsy shows he's clear, but if not, remember 98%of men with prostate cancer will not die of it. If you should need advice and support, the prostate forum is a wonderful place to join, my very best wishes to you both.

  • Hi Eddiel,

Thank you so much for your encouraging words and yes I will join that forum. I will ask more questions if it's bad news.

    Many thanks

  • Hi Brian

Thank you for your encouraging words, I will definitely join the forum as suggested.

    Many thanks

  • Your very welcome, there are 2 types of biopsy, trans-rectal and trans-perineal, the perineal allows better access to more of the prostate and less chance of infection, but both are good procedures.
