Hi All

I’m new to this forum, can’t believe I’m even joining or saying this. We are a very close family and my mother in law was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer yesterday that has spread into her lungs. I have three children aged ten and twins that are nearly 7 and I need help and advice how to navigate with them, any resources? They are switched on and are going to ask questions. I need to be strong for them but don’t feel it at the minute x

  • Hello

A warm welcome to the Macmillan online Community, although I am so sorry to find you here. It's knowing how and when to tell your children, mine were all adults when I was diagnosed but we still had the grandchildren to tell.

Here's a link to our resources as requested:

    https://www.macmillan.org.uk/cancer-information-and-support/diagnosis/talking-about-cancer/talking-to-children-and-teenagers

You are also very welcome to join our Pancreatic forum where you can "meet" other Community members on the same or similar journey to your mother in law. Again, here's the link:

    Pancreatic cancer forum .

We also have a forum where you can find help and advice looking after your mother in law and again here's the link to this forum:

    Carers only forum

Please don't forget our support line on 0808 808 00 00 (8am to 8pm 7 days a week) is for anyone with or affected by cancer. They offer support, information and a listening ear for all. Finally, if you have a "Maggies" near you - this is a cancer charity for all the family where you can just drop in for support - again here's the link: https://www.maggies.org/

I do hope the above helps - if I can do anything else for you please do get back to me.

    Best wishes- Brian.
