My father-in-law unfortunately has terminal cancer. The issue is that my mother-in-law has Alzheimers and he is her main carer. We live 4 hours away so can't always help at short notice. They do have some carers who come in to help her on certain days of the week. This issue is when something unexpected happens. My father-in-law recently had to stay overnight in hospital and my husband ended up travelling up to be with her. We can't always do this because we work and have 2 children. Are there any ways of being able to get ad hoc care for her at short notice?
Hi LeicesterFox
Sorry to read about both your in-laws and totally get your issues with work and your own family. I would guess the sort of care you talk about might be very variable across the country so it might be best to speak to your in-laws council around a needs assessment.
Hope that is of some help in this really difficult situation.
<<hugs>>
