My Dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. I'm terrified. They said it's been caught early, but that doesn't make me feel any better. I'm not sleeping and can barely eat. We lost our Taid (granddad) to cancer in 2014 and it's just brought it all back. When will this get better?

  • Hello Bethan551 and welcome to the forum, I am sorry to hear about your dads diagnosis and can understand,  how the history of the loss of your grandad to cancer makes your dads diagnosis so difficult to cope with  even though it has been caught early. I have lost three family members to cancer and i know it does not get easier. Bethan i have prostate cancer and was in healthcare, cancer care for many years and modern treatments for prostate cancer are unrecognizable from10 year ago. Being told a loved one has cancer is an awful experience made harder by all the testing , waiting for results and a treatment plan to start. When it does things will feel a little better, If you would like to talk to others who have or have been treated for prostate cancer there is a dedicated forum called, the prostate cancer forum, Please take care,

    Eddie

  • Hi,

I know how you feel my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer recently, they do say it’s a slow cancer and so many people live a good and long life, I know it’s scary and your mind is thinking all the what ifs but try and take it one day at a time, sending you all the best! Communicate with your dad maybe talking will ease your mind Heart
