I was abit weary typing online for support I’m still coming to terms with my mum’s diagnosis of course I’m gonna be there every step of the way but I’m still really struggling doesn’t feel like I’m speaking about my mum she got diagnosed 8weeks ago with stage three rectial cancer this week we got told she will be having 5weeks radio Mon-Fri every day and chemo tablets then chemo for 18weeks one a week then surgery I know there is a slight light end of the tunnel and I’m not the one that has this but the worry and stress of this is really affecting all parts of my life I don’t know anything about radio or chemo etc nothing at all, finding it hard to find the best way to support my mum
Hi Letitia
So sorry to hear about your mum but so glad you found our community. A whole lot of us on here who recognize every word you write because we have been there. There is a lot of information on the main site around radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery as well as the specific form of cancer your mum has.
However perhaps the most important question you ask is on how you support your mum, Most if not all of us here will have looked at looking after someone with cancer and one thing I know I managed to overlook was taking care of me.
Perhaps the best way we support our loved ones is to listen, she is still your mum what does she want?
<<hugs>>
Steve
