My mum was recently diagnosed with a pretty much incurable cancer and has started chemo. I am in my early twenties and moving across the country to live at home again and support her, as we have no other family in the country. I honestly don't know what to expect, plan for, or do to help my mum. Usually, I would ask her for advice, but I can't this time.
Hi Cpop,
I am sorry you have to go through this, my heart goes out to you!
I have gone through something similar and one thing that was really helpful was to take it one day at a time. When I would feel myself getting worked up about the future, I would think about my mum, that she’s still here now, and I would feel somewhat comforted. You also cannot know how she’ll respond to treatment, it could go very well, so who knows what the future holds. I read some people here that have lived with cancer for many years, I’ve also met a few.
I think you’re already doing the most important thing - you’re there for her. It’s immensely comforting that she’s not alone, and not just that, she has her child close.
Please reach out if you feel that it’d help.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
