My sis in law deals with all the finances and brother has not a clue, she is very ill but trying to help me help my brother, concern is if anything changes before all finance stuff in place, should I see about power of attorney? Or any other advice would be helpful
Hello Mydreams
I have just come across your post and notice you haven't had any replies. I can understand what a trying time this must be for you and your family. The best advice I can give you is:
* If your sister in law and brother are well enough are they able to add you as a signatory to their bank account to enable you to sort out their bills/
* A Power of Attorney is the best option for you - but it does take time to organise - it's possible to do this yourself - all the documentation is available online together with instructions - however it would be quicker to use a solicitor. There are substantial delays at the Office of the Public Guardian in issuing these grants.
* You could repost your question in Ask a Financial Guide by clicking on the link I have provided.
I hope this helps - If I can do anything else for you please don't hesitate to contact me. i do hope your sister in law's health issues improve.
Best wishes - Brian.
