Hair loss with chemo - typical rate?

 Hello,
My aunt has been having intravenous chemo for lymphoma on a monthly cycle and she has started having hair loss. I can’t seem to find any advice  on whether this is likely to keep going over weeks or months or even more suddenly. I would like to help her prepare but I am not sure what happens over what time scales. She has always had lovely hair so this is going to be hard for her if significant loss. Is it likely all hair will be lost or does this really vary from person to person?

Thanks in advance

  • Hi

I'm sorry to read that your aunt has recently been diagnosed with lymphoma. It must be an incredibly hard time for you as I can see from your previous posts that your dad was refusing to have tests to confirm a possible cancer diagnosis only a few months ago. How is your dad now?

I lost my hair when I was having chemo for breast cancer over a period of about 4 weeks. However, different chemos react differently so it would be a good idea to post this question in the relevant lymphoma group as you'll then connect directly with people who are having the same chemo as your aunt. There are lots of different types of lymphoma so you could take a look through this list to choose the relevant one. Once you've joined the group you can start a new post in the same way as you did here.

  • Thank you for your message and information. It is very kind of you to reply.  I am afraid I don’t know the type so will have to find out more. Its a 2 day a month treatment if that helps.
    Best wishes

  • I'm afraid I don't know anything about lymphoma, only that there are lot's of different types. How's your dad doing now?
