My mum lives on her own and I'm about 6 hours away. She's about to start palliative chemo every 3 weeks and I want to be there as much as possible but with kids/job it can only be a few days at a time. Would love to hear how anyone else has managed long-distance care and support, how they've timed it in the chemo cycle etc. She's elderly and the chemo's looking to be pretty nasty, although I know everyone is affected differently. I'm expecting that as the months go on she'll be feeling worse and need more help. At the moment she's fit and independent so not looking to leave her home. Thanks everyone.
Hi KathB
Does your mum have any support nearer to her? It might be a good idea if she has not had one already to have a needs assessment so that you both know what is in place if she needs support.
Did not do long distance with cancer but when mum and dad were getting older they eventually decided it was time to move to a supervised living place - still independent but with a carer on site 24/7 when they needed.
