Hi Everyone, Im Tom 27
Found out that my dad has got throat cancer though unsure if there is set types with regard to the throat. I am struggling with ill health and has made my chest pains worse (It is not a heart attack before anyone starts to worry about me )
I am on both morphine and fentanyl and as a side effect I struggle to show emotions. My biggest fear is that I will lose him before I start to show any feelings. Due to my dad seeing how morphine effected me he refuses to take either fentanyl or morphine (Told that by my mum) I feel like its my fault why he does not take any of his medications
Got any advice as a guy I feel so isolated as my fiancée lost her mum 2 weeks ago so I do not want to add to her problems
Thanks
Tom
Hi Tom96
Sorry to hear about your dad we have a lot of information about throat cancer on the main site here that might help you.
It is not unusual for patients to get concerned about the effects of pain killers especially if they perceive others to have had problems. Often with cancer everyone can struggle with emotions and indeed this can affect people with any kind of disability. Try not to take the blame yourself because you do what you need.
Sorry to hear about your fiancée too, supporting someone through grief can be difficult too. I wonder if it might help you to talk to someone on our helpline here, you are more than welcome to give them a call.
<<hugs>>
Steve
