My mum has just been told she has Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer, it’s the rarest and the most deadly of the types of thyroid cancer, they can’t remove it, they can’t do chemotherapy, it’s in her lymph nodes and on her ribs, in the thyroid and enclosed the carotid artery, there’s a meeting on Monday to workout if they can do radiotherapy, mum and I have had a few tears, how do you stay strong ? I’ve said I will do all of mums personal care when the time comes, has anyone looked after someone with the same please?
kind regards
tracy
Hi Trace11
Sorry cannot help with the specific type of cancer you mention, my wife's cancer is Leiomyosarcoma and puts her in the rate category too - can make it hard to find that match.
Can certainly relate to the "how to stay strong" bit - I wish it was easy to do. I did a living with less stress course that helped me. Living day to day or even hour to hour can be a way to go. Crying can actually be very helpful and is very natural. The breathing exercises we were taught can be very positive too especially in those meetings where life decides we are due a new curveball.
Hope you find someone a bit more of a match who might responde. It might be helpful to introduce yourself in the Thyroid cancer forum if you have not done so already as people there might be able to share more specific answers.
<<hugs>>
Steve
