Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with a soft food diet due to blockage of the stomach because of cancer progression. My partners mother is sadly on her last few monthsand she can only eat very soft food. We want to make her last few months as palatable as possible, as this is a really big aspect of their family time. I was hoping that people on this forum could provide any suggestions to alternative meals that arn’t to different to the original (bearing in mind she has an iliostomy/ stoma bag). So she can also feel included in the family meal like she always was. We have had a brain storm and thought of a few things, such as fish curry (since it’s a bit softer), snacks for texture such as quavers and skipps, fish pies, cottage pie and lasagne (without the pasta) and all blended, but with mash making it appear more appealing etc. We’ve mainly had idea for deserts such as cheese cake without the base, trifle without the fruit and lemon meringue without the pastry. But are struggling with more savoury meal time foods. Any suggestions would be really helpful!
Thank you in advance
Hi Anna8harps and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
As you know, the online community is divided up into different support groups so it might be an idea to also post this in the group for the type of cancer that your mother-in-law has. If you'd like to do this, you can either drop me a reply telling me what type of cancer she has and I'll give you a direct link to the group, or you can look through this list.
((hugs))
My dad has oesophageal cancer. Similar to your mum, needing soft and liquid foods. He enjoys middles from custard tarts and plain custard with blended banana purée. You can get lovely luxurious custards. He likes porridge with Ensure drinks mixed in. He also likes the middle of quiches minus the crust. He likes scrambled eggs and can just manage thin soft white bread with lots of butter with the eggs. Soups of course. Sainsburys and CoOp do a lovely smooth leek and cheese soup. Calories as well as smooth. He also loves blue cheese on its own. Let your mum find tasty foods she really likes.
Some really good suggestions there, thank you so much! Will definitely do the quiche without the crust. Great idea! Thanks so much
