Hi Everyone,
My Dad has recently been diagnosed with Liver Cancer, i don’t know the stage but the NHS advised that with chemotherapy worst case is 2yrs and best case is 5yrs. Generally i have been coping well but get waves of anxiety, i’ve also been supporting close and extended family. I’m devestated.
He is due to start chemotherapy this week. It just feels so unfair!
Hello MFPriest
Welcome to the Online community. I am so sorry to see that your Dad has been diagnosed with Liver cancer. I remember how I felt when my Mum was diagnosed and understand through my own diagnosis and treatment, the effects on family and friends.
Having a loved one diagnosed with cancer is such a worrying and stressful time. We can not take that away from you but hopefully we will be able to offer you some support while you are both going through it. Sharing how you are feeling with others who are going through similar things can really help. Waves of anxiety are completely normal as is feeling that it is all unfair. There is no right or wrong way to feel and all I can say from experience is to go with the flow and reach out when you need to.
I will try and sign post you to some information that may help you and Dad.
-Diagnosis | Macmillan Cancer Support- this has info about being diagnosed and about the questions you may both have. If you scroll to the bottom of it there are also different ways of getting support from Macmillan including the support line, which I found really useful if you just need to talk it through with someone.
-Supporting someone | Macmillan Cancer Support- this info is specifically for when you are supporting someone through their cancer journey and has advice both practical and emotional
-Chemotherapy for liver cancer - intravenous or tablets | Macmillan Cancer Support- this is some information about the chemotherapy for liver cancer
-Liver cancer forum - Macmillan Online Community- the online community is divided into different forums and you are very welcome to post on this one, however you may want to have a look at the Liver cancer one as the people on there will be going through similar experiences to Dad.
I hope that these links may help a bit but please ask if there is anything else we can do to support you and Dad.
Take Care
Jane
