How do you cope when your 16 is diagnosed with testicular cancer

  • I believe this cancer is curable but it depends on the type of cancer. As a parent you need to be strong and listen to 16 years old what he wants, how he wants to get on with the current situation.Behave normal and let him have every day as a normal day.Encourage him to talk to his friends, if he studying, let him carry on with his classes.Buy some games, cook his favourite food and if you can plan a holiday or day out, so he will have something to look forward and also give him some examples of people who have successfully been cured x

  • Hi

I can only imagine what it is like to have a child diagnosed with any kind of cancer since my experience is with my wife.

However having been on our journey for 10 years now I can share things that have helped me cope. It we look at your feelings when someone has cancer I know I recognize lots of what I went through.

I ended up doing a living with less stress course and one of the key things I learnt was to focus more on little steps - when is next when to expect results etc as it helps keep me focused on the here and now rather than a long term future I cannot control but I did imagine things much worse than we actually experienced.

Conscious breathing techniques also help me relax but also work well when live decides it is time to throw us another curveball.

I did see a post earlier that suggested getting in touch with the tonnage cancer trust  as it might help the feeling of being less alone.

    <<hugs>>
