During lockdown my mum and mother in law were diagnosed with cancer.

My mother in law has since passed away.

My mum's cancer went and came back again just before Christmas. She had a scan 10 days ago saying one tumour had shrunk and one had gone.

But just spoke to her again (we live far away) and she is having another scan tomorrow - like last minute as she won't know what time until tomorrow.  I'm guessing she's requested it.  She's been more tired this time whereas before the chemo hasn't been too bad

How likely is it that the prognosis has changed in 10 days??

I was thinking all was ok now have no idea!:(

  • Hi

Sorry to hear about your mum and your mum-in-law, do you know what types of cancer they both had - there are a lot of different types and some behave very differently to others so it can be quite helpful to understand if these are similar or very different.

From what you say it sounds like your mum is on chemotherapy. With my wife's first chemo there was a bit of an unfortunate side effect that was picked up in a scan - not a change in the cancer but something that could actually have been more serious in a very short time. Good that it was picked up because they did manage to fix it.

Does your mum have a prognosis? My wife was very clear she never wanted one and I struggled with that - nobody would ever have guessed though that 8 years down the line her cancer would be stable and she is in really good health - living with cancer because her's is at least currently uncurbable - but just getting on with our life together.

    <<hugs>>
