Hi everyone, my sister was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer on Thursday, we are all so anxious and afraid. She has to wait till next week for mdt meeting, to find out what her treatment plan will be.

Hoping to learn and get support by being here.

  • Hi

Sorry to hear about your sister, your reaction is incredibly "normal" in our new world of normal. Often people feel that gap between diagnosis and getting treatment sorted as one of the most difficult times of all.

  • Things have been just awful. Sister was diagnosed on 2nd Feb, so 5 weeks ago. When she saw consultant after diagnosis she was told they wanted to do a ct scan to check all her organs. This was done 3 weeks ago. Consultation last Thursday she was told there is a fracture on the rib, and needed another pet scan and biopsy of rib. 5 weeks and we have no treatment plan. On Monday of this week she had a call from oncology nurse, who implied there was a question mark over the diagnosis, the consultant had told her the fracture did not mean she didn’t have cancer. Now we are in limbo all over again, mixed messages from care team is appalling. We don’t know what to think, still waiting for pet scan and biopsy appt. I feel really angry tonight, that there is no clarity to what’s going on.

  • Hello Violet l totally understand your anxiety and anger.  I have been through this with my sister whilst she got the bad news end of September 2022 with tests etc she did not start on her treatment plan until November 2022.  I hope you get some clarity soon but  the wheels do appear to turn much slower than we expect because they really need to present the best treatment option based on the test results.  In my sisters case they had to confirm that it was hormone related so that the correct medication could be prescribed.

    Hope that helps you
