Hello. New to this group. I was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer last year. Still active on the breast cancer forum. Very supportive and have made some great friends.Still struggling a bit with lymphoedema and swelling following rads, poor/non existent sleep and this week been very stressed out. Recently made redundant too. Planning a move to my partner after travelling to and fro for past 7 years

My dad has Alzheimer's which was diagnosed last year. He's quite forgetful and sometimes childlike (complete with tantrums) but has just been diagnosed with bowel cancer. Dont think it has sunk in. My mum and I do find it a struggle to cope with him. We'll know more when he's had another scan as to stage and proposed treatment but just wanted to put it out there. Well to be honest finding life a bit shit at the moment but just plodding on.

  • hi and welcome to family and friends.

Sorry to hear about your dad, as you almost certainly know the interval between getting a diagnosis and getting started on treatment can be especially hard so not really surprised at your comment.

One thing your can help is getting a needs assessment for your dad and a carers assessment for your mum/you. There are lots of tips and things in Supporting a family member with cancer

Add in your redundancy and the Alzheimer's too I feel for you.

    <<hugs>>

  • Thanks for the advice. Yes again its the waiting although hospitals have been quick with appointments and we have 2 very good hospitals (Greater Manchester area) plus Christie all fairly near by and I know the route well having been there myself. Trying not to overthink the situation until we know more and just going with the flow.
