Hello, not sure what I am trying to achieve writing a post but I thought I would message as no one really knows what it is like to go through cancer in the family other than my close family.
My mum had breast cancer in 2016 and luckily recovered from it with a double mastectomy and radio therapy. She has been suffering with severe back ache since January this year. She has been to GP to diagnose the issue and this past week has drastically declined in her health. We have found out this week that her cancer has returned in 2 places on her spine, her arm, left rib and chest.
I suppose the good thing is it's only in her bones and none of her major organs or lymph nodes but the spinal tumour has crushed her nerves to her legs and she is currently now unable to walk. She has also broken her arm and fractured her chest bone because the cancer making her bones brittle.
She is currently in hospital where this week is having intense sessions of radio therapy on her spine to reduce the tumour and possibly get some sort of mobility back. She has been told this morning the cancer in her arm were more than they originally thought and 'still remain hopeful' they can treat her.
This has sent me into such a hole as we are also unable to visit her at the moment due to the COVID level being high in the hospital she is in. It was he 'still remain hopeful' part which has scared me.
We aren't going to know the next steps of her treatment plan until next week once her radio therapy has finished but I am scared the cancer is continuing to grow in her other bones and isn't being stopped.
Hi
Sorry to hear about your mum, I certainly can relate to the feeling of being alone and nobody understands - it is not often a conversation we have over a coffee.
Fingers crossed for the radiotherapy - I would guess they hope to release some trapped nerves and that may well be a lot of help.
For you it might be worth looking at Emotional support for carers, because it can be really hard but on the other side it can be very rewarding.
<<hugs>>
