Hi everyone,

My sister had rectal cancer 7 years ago. She had an operation to remove part of the bowel and had chemotherapy as a precautionary measure.

3 years ago, the cancer returned in the pelvic wall (which is inoperable) and she was told that she had tumours on her lungs. She has been on chemotherapy, but unfortunately it was not working and she was told last year that the only option would be a clinical trial. After trying this, they scanned her and one of the tumours on the lung had grown slightly, she was therefore taken off the trial. She has now been discharged from the Marsden and is now back in the community for palliative care.

Over the past 6 months she has deteriorated, she is unable to walk as the tumour is pressing on the nerve so she has no feeling in her leg. She is a single mother to two children (11 & 14)  and has recently had to move in with my parents as she is no longer able to care for herself and the kids. This comes with its own challenges as my father is full-time carer to my mum who has Parkinsons.

I am looking to talk to others for support at this very difficult time.
