Hi everyone
Still can’t quite believe I’m writing this. My partner has just been told he has kidney cancer. It has come as quite a shock it was only found when he went in to see the doctors about kidney stones and they took a scan and blood/urine samples. He is 34 and otherwise fit and well. We have just had our first baby he is only 8 days old and arrived somewhat traumatically so we are still dealing with this too.
They have taken a biopsy and described the cancer as T1. He’s expecting a phone call after Christmas to discuss next steps. I’m just looking for a little more info regards what to expect? How I can support him best?
We have 4 children between us plus our little one so just trying to put on a brave face for them and make Christmas special.
Thankyou for reading
Louisa
Hi Louisa,
It does sound like your husband had managed to get to a position of getting a really early diagnosis, T1 is described in the pages here.
There is quite a lot of options in his future as we can see here,
Sound like you had an interesting time with your baby and I am sure that will be keeping you rather busy. When you talk about keeping a brave face for the other children I guess they are a bit older. It might help to look at Talking to children and teenagers too.
I do hope you manage to have a good Christmas. Do remember if you want to talk to someone that you can ring the helpline and post on here too whenever - someone is always listening.
<<hugs>>
Steve
