In 2017 my Mam was diagnosed with lung cancer she underwent chemo and radio therapy and came out fighting still till this day she is very poorly on and off and can’t gain weight and she has a horrendous time with bowel movements and in pain a lot with it. The doctor keeps putting it down to being anxious but my serious concern is why isn’t she being called in for further scans?.

She feels very alone and Any advice will be extremely appreciated.

Thanks.

  • Hi

Sorry to hear about your mum and the problems she is having. I cannot say we have been in that position - though certainly we have faced issues in the past where it seems we felt the doctors did not take us seriously. It might help you to post in Ask a Nurse or even ring the helpline as then there can be a more dynamic feedback with our professionals who might be able to give some idea of where to go next.

    Hello Sunshine

My mum also was diagnosed with breast cancer 9 months ago, and she also had bowel movement problems. The doctors (or lets say the specific hospital) did not take her seriously either...

So we changed the hospital, now she has to drive a hour further away but its worth it. Maybe if thats possible you could try that too? I hope it helps (:

Hi Sunshine so sry you are going through lung cancer with your Mom. My Mother was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer with metastasis to the brain in 2010. I remember those days my dear Mom was very thin and couldn't gain weight until they prescribed her folic acid, her appetite picked up and she gained most of her weight back. I use to feed her red apples and have her drink lots of water, which aided in her constipation and gave her relief. Most of the time it was the chemo meds that changed her bowel habbits. Lung cancer is a horrible disease as is with all cancers doesn't really matter where it is located.  You stay strong and safe God bless you and all that are affected by the monster called cancer.
