Is my elderly Mum being written off?

My mum who's 88 had sudden aggressive cancer 4 months ago and was whizzed through an operation and treatment, given full details and dates for when she'd get tests, results, etc. It was traumatic but everyone felt held and informed.

Then about 5 weeks ago a lump appeared and is growing rapidly. She's seen her GP, A&E GPS x2, nurse at first cancer follow up and has had an MRI last week. She's been told to call twice for biopsy date, but told not known yet. Noone has said it's not cancer,  but she has bee told if pain gets bad she can go on the cancer ward and today her GP said she could have morphine as the codeine isn't enough. The lump continues to grow at an alarming rate and is causing her discomfort. It feels like none of us really knows what is happening or why this time weeks are going by with no clear dates for test results. We're unclear who us taking control of the situation. What should we do? We are so scared that it is obviously cancer, but they're not treating it due to her age.

Hi Lottie21 welcome to the forum and sorry to hear what is happening for you and the family.

Are you your Mum's next of kin? If you are and your mum is ok with you doing this then you can make an appointment with the GP and ask all the questions that you need to have answers to.

Im not sure that her age will not  be a factor but again a question to be asking the GP or hospital.

Thanks Gail, my sister is NOK and will ask this week. Mum was being stoic and didn't want any of us at appointments this time, so maybe they did tell her more, but she didn't take it all in. She forgets stuff sometimes. All such a nightmare.
