Hi,

On Father’s Day (of all days) my 74yr old father was taken to hospital for his severe shortness of breath, he has chronic asthma so we put it all down to a chest infection.

We’re 2 weeks on and he has been diagnosed with Lung and Liver cancer. He’s still to have his biopsy and be given details of how bad it is but he has already said that he will be refusing any treatment.

I feel numb with this decision, I’m not angry and I respect his wishes.
Can I ask is anyone else has had similar experiences from a loved one who doesn’t want treatment?

Thank you all for your time.

  • Hello, My Father has Lung cancer but due to COPD, he can't get biopsy's as they feel he wont survive the surgery.  They offered Chemo and Radium but he declined as they mentioned that this would deplete his quality of life, so he chose not to.  Me, I want my Dad to live for ever but I understand his decision, I would rather he had a good remaining life than spent ill from treatment.  We are 9 months in from Diagnoses and he has been no different a little more breathless but then he only has 39% lung capacity left.  I often wonder if he had taken treatment would he be gone already!!  I know it's hard accepting their decision, again it is his and that's the hard part.....we just want them to stay alive forever....

Stay strong as you can be and I am here if you need to talk, chat.  Sending hugs to you and your Dad.
