Hubby diagnosed with Prostate cancer 6/7 yesterday.
Due to start hormone meds tomorrow before radiotherapy in four weeks.
As a former nurse i can understand where we are heading, although they are due to do a further bone scan soon.
My glass is usually half full and i am generally a positive person.
However i have COPD plus various other issues and in receipt of PIP.
I just dont know how i will be feeling day to day myself and i know i have to think positive but what happens if i just can get him to his appointments!?
We are in our seventies and get by on state pension plus a small private pension my hubby gets. I get a disability premium on my state pension but things are quite tight financially.
Sorry to rant a bit but feel like ive trodden on quicksand and darnt move.
Hi and welcome to the community, though sorry to hear about your husband.
Bless you for your service as a nurse; I have seen very often on here though that people with a medical background can find it very hard with the switch between professional and personal as we no longer have the ability to leave all the issues at work [not that some medics are really good at that!]
You might find it helpful to look through our guide on prostrate cancer
but thinking about yourself you might like to look at Looking after someone with cancer
Scans always create anxiety - so much so on here we classify it as scanxiety but it does not matter how much we worry it will not change the result at all.
If you look over at our Prostate cancer forum you will be able to see lots of people at all stages of treatment and if you wanted to introduce yourself there our friends will give you the support for which our community is famous.
I am "lucky" in that my prostrate is benign enlarged rather than cancerous - still managed to put me in hospital about 3 times including an ambulance call out and about 20 hours in A+E. Still flo-max seems to have that under control for now, glad I am now over 60 and get free prescriptions now.
<<hugs>>
Steve
