My lovely brother with oesophageal cancer has been for a ten mile walk today. He says he really enjoyed it. At home, he then had a big meal and he says he feels "Fantastic" How is this possible? Like me, he keeps thinking he'll get a phone call to tell him there's been a mistake and he hasn't got cancer after all. He just doesn't have any symptoms. However, his chemo starts on Monday so I guess it will all become very real then. I'm so proud of him. He was even telling me silly jokes on the phone. He certainly takes positive thinking to another level. I have given myself a good talking to because if Rob can go through all of this, then I can get my head around it and cope.
I have been keeping myself busy today as well as allowing periods of rest to sit and read. Distraction is certainly the best medicine for me, especially reading which takes my thoughts to another place.
I'm sending big hugs to anyone who needs them.
Hi
thank you for sharing this - all so often I remember the circle of have a bad day, then a worse day and on and on spiralling out of control - until I broke and finally reached out for help.
There is a method of noticing every day something good - even on a really bad day it can be something like a stranger asking if you are ok. When I got better at this I might notice two or three good things on even the worst of days and then some days it seemed there were more good things than anything else.
There have been a number of threads on here about 3 good things - today you can be one of my 3 good things.
<<hugs>>
Steve
