Now that my mum is in hospital just wondering how do I go in way make house lot safer for her. Like bed rail or raised toliet seat someone said she can get those free I'm just not sure who to phone would like try make house lot more easily for her when she does come home
Hello . When we looked after my mum at home, our GP referred her to local social services. They did a house assessment, and then fitted extra handrails, supplied a commode and aids to help in the bath. You may also find it helpful to ring the free Mac helpline on 0808 808 0000. You will find them vey helpful and will be able to advise on what help mum is entitled to. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.
Hi @f!n
A second approach that worked quite well with Janice was where we got involved in the hospital discharge planning. What support does you mum need to allow her to come home - perhaps even earlier that she might get without that plan. The newspapers like to talk about bed-blockers as it it were there fault there was not a good alternative.
The national institute for clinical excellence has some really good guidance on hospital discharge planning here. It can help to talk about when she needs at home rather than what makes things easy.
I know Janice is really ill if she wants to go to hospital - and once she is on the road to recovery she wants back out as soon as possible.
Hope that helps a bit - and good luck to you and your mum.
